A for Apple ….why not A for Arts?

‘ART’ we see everywhere… in everything…we experience , we feel, we wear, we eat,we create, we copy, we exhibit, we comment,we criticise, we use, we throw… we are living art in our day to day life. Can we imagine our life without art? Art can be expressed even when we are depressed!

we say God or Almighty or the supreme power as per every religion is the Creator . He is the greatest artist who created the entire universe so precisely without any flaws. every creature is his masterpiece. He never repeated his creation. Every time he must have  broken his mould to create different species with so many variations.

But he had been very biased towards human species. He only gave the power of art and creativity to Humans.Human was created to create. We worship different forms of God , infact these forms are artists imagination . Art has that divine power to connect with supreme. Art can help to discover the purpose of Life.

But unfortunately today Art has been mostly used as a piece of display. If we connect Art with 21 st century then it is even more important that we should indulge in more and more art activities because it provides opportunities to develop creativity which is the key to the success in this era. Art helps to improve concentration, it is cathartic, it’s a proven fact that art integration in school curricula can help to retain concepts for a lifetime.

Art speaks where words are unable to explain, for many differently abled art is the highest form of HOPE.

…. but still… art is still finding it’s position in Indian traditional school system. It’s still somewhere at the last bench waiting for it’s turn to come. We as parents and educators are teaching students to run behind marks and money . But in that rat race we are not teaching them how to create that important aspect of life . That is ‘Happiness’ . Different forms of Art such as visual and performing arts provides confidence and a canvas to create your own destiny. But where’s the time for Arts. We are very busy teaching A for Apple .according to many it’s a waste of time and resources.
 why A for Apple
…. why not A for Arts?

Arts is an integral part of academia and in developing the cognisance. In the formative years arts plays a key role.Unfortunately this subject is not given much importance.Recently in STEM (science ,tecnology, engineering and mathematics) arts is added and now it is STEAM. Kudos to Mrs.Aarti for this great initiative.

  • Mahalakshmi
    says:

    Totally agree with you, Aarati.
Our entire life has art embedded in it. Be it organising the house, presenting a new recipe, time management at workplace, maintaining books, braiding hair, gardening, everything is an art. Some parents inculcate these virtues in childhood, but call it by a different name “Discipline”. Actually, they are indirectly grooming their children to be Arty. More focus on this will definitely be welcomed with open arms.

    says:

Great initiative. In some years back if you select ARTS means you are not intelligent. Today ART has become more demanding and commanding.
ART means not only painting, dancing, making sculptures…it is far more than that. People started realizing it.
So now A for ARTS is welcomed.

    Hi’ This is Pranab Mitra
Talking about ART.Art is all pervasive,Our all sensory organs are
conditioned to behave in a particular way this is an inert Art.Now a days 21sr century kids are all very intelligent they are the ones who will appreciate Art in a Macro level. Now a days Technology has made so much strides that ART has got a all-inclusive meaning. So it is high time we change with times and not to stick at numbers.Success should be measured not in terms of marks but in terms of attributes, then success will come on it’s own.Let us dream of an era where all the parents and children will be on the same wavelength thereby allowing every children to follow his/her dream which would lead to germination of new avenues of knowledge and a Vista of field not just Arts,Science and Commerce but an inclusive growth where it will be recognised globally.

You are absolutely right, Aarati.. Though the society is changing, we still look at arts as a side hobby, to be indulged only after the primary profession of earning money is achieved and yes there is no end to how much money, so the rat race goes on.. I guess it will take a few generations for society at large to understand and accept the real value of arts

  • Vineet
    says:

Art starts from an unstructured amorphous background and most of us are unable to believe that a formless thing has the potential to be a concrete thought which could be a marvel to watch.
Non acceptance if art is also because of failure of human beings to seek and imagine the potential that it could deliver.

  • Sunil
    says:

    So true !
Every human being has some hidden talent towards Art and creativity in his nurturing toddler years – right side of the brain .
As he goes to school , he is taught only to rote and use logic – which causes the left side of the brain to get over used and the right side to be underused .

I think Arts should be the only things that needs to be taught till they are in 2nd std . This includes meditation , yoga , physical excercises , all forms of dance , music , drawing , etc

    • blog@aarti34
      says:

Thank you Sunil .Well said ! But I feel not just till 2nd std. Art should be nurtured throughout life. It should be the way of living.

very true . In fact it is Arts and hobbies that supports you after a certain stage of life , when you have to spend the excess time available and there is nobody around.

It is really true. The teacher is the only person who can explore the hidden talents of the children by encouraging them to express their thought ideas in the form of art. This can even help to get to know more about the child. Secondly the child will express through various forms of hidden his inner feelings which will help him overcome many problems.

A barber can be an artist, a Gardener, a sweeper, a teacher, a cook, an architect, an engineer, a doctor, ….. The definition of Art is very vast… You can do any work with your whole heart to make it a form of Art !!
…..To live a life blissfully , is the highest form of Art… ( That’s why people call it The Art of Living )

  • Rashmi Agnihotri
    says:

Before some 35-40 years, there were only 3 main streams of education. Arts, commerce and Science. Those who chose Science,we’re considered very intelligent, then second came commerce and arts was thought for people who have law grades or are not hardworking.
This wrong thinking has sabotaged so many lives and careers.
Now a days , movies like 3 idiots and Taare Zamin par, have made people talk about this. And it’s a good change.
Whatever you do with passion, becomes a work of art !! ( You may be a doctor, a soldier, a house wife or a sweeper… anybody….) Art is everywhere…

      says:

Very good thoughts from you Aarati.
One big reason why parents do not encourage children to take interest in art is because they think that most high earning careers depend on academics only. Advertisements about traditional jobs and careers hide the fact that the advertisementss themselves have a commercial Artist who created them. And Commercial Artist is a very well-paying career. Apart from advertisements, art is even essential when you design machinery, for which client would want to buy an ugly jumble of wires and machine parts? The outer look of the machine matters – and that’s where art comes in – a combination of esthetics and functionality. Product design is another very well-paying career which starts from the study of art. The career aspect of art must be brought up with parents. So when they observe their child with artistic aptitude they can encourage them in the right direction rather than forcing them to choose a career that will break their child’s spirit.
